Finding the perfect piece of art can be a lot more challenging than you might at first have thought – but you can easily compromise the overall effect of your living spaces if you rush the decision and fail to choose the best piece for the room.

Of course, art is incredibly subjective and there is no right or wrong piece, as such. As long as you pick something that you truly love and which you know you’ll continue to appreciate as the years go on, you know you’ll make a wise investment, no matter what.

That being said, there’s a lot you can do to help facilitate the process and find the right kind of art for you and your home. It’s definitely something that’s worth taking your time over and a good place to begin is doing some research into different types and styles of art so you can see what you like and what you don’t.

Bear in mind, however, that while something may look incredible on display in your local art gallery doesn’t mean that it will translate as well when you get them home, so always think about the rest of your home decor choices when looking at new pieces.

One way to get around this is to actually design your room around a favourite artwork. These are often handed down between generations and, in this case, it would be lovely to really celebrate the piece and really let it take centre stage.

This can actually help you make other design decisions if you’re not particularly confident in your interior styling abilities. You’ll find you have an instant colour palette to play around with and are sure to find other sources of inspiration within your art collection.
