There’s nothing quite like the changing of the seasons. It’s a time of pure magic, particularly the transition from summer to autumn, with the nights drawing in, the temperatures slowly starting to drop, the crispness of the air and the changing colours on the leaves.
Is it any wonder that so many of us can’t wait to start decorating our homes to reflect these changes? Autumnal home decor is wonderfully charming and cosy, absolutely perfect for those warm nights at home with loved ones… but where do you begin with it all?
To help you get your design ideas just right this season, here are a few top tips from the team here at JN Interior Design.
Consider colour
Colour choice will always make or break a successful interior design scheme but never is this truer than where autumnal decorating is concerned. This time of year is gloriously beautiful, with all the reds, browns, yellows and oranges starting to appear on the trees… and this is a brilliant palette to turn to when decorating right now.
Go for natural materials
Natural materials and fabrics are key for this season, especially in earthy shades. It’s all about creating a beautifully cosy environment that cocoons you from increasingly harsh weather outside, so go for the likes of wood, velvet, wool, thick drapes, faux fur, glass, warm metals and so on to help bring the outside in.
Prioritise lighting
Soft lighting is a brilliant way to change the ambience of your home and you can easily achieve this with the use of dimmer switches strategically placed throughout. Don’t forget to layer your lights and make use of task and accent lighting, as well – and you can achieve wonderfully autumnal effects with the use of candles alongside.
