Many of us have been investing more time and energy into where we live this year, as we have found ourselves spending more time than ever before in our homes. Now is the time to be looking forward to the new year, and the trends that are set to dominate our interior design aspirations.

Now’s your chance to get ahead of the game and grab the most popular items and looks before you get Instagram envy!
Home offices
The mass relocation to work from home has led many to reevaluate their living spaces. What was once a temporary solution during the lockdown, working from home has evolved into a much longer-lasting situation.
A huge increase in people reaching online for ‘2021 home office’ evidences that the UK is ready to continue working from home well into 2021. Experts are predicting that home offices are set to be the new normal as the country’s workforce swaps office wear for smart loungewear suitable for Zoom meetings
If you feel you don’t have space for a permanent office setup, then many companies are creating clever desk solutions to fit in forgotten corners in the home you hadn’t considered. L-shaped desks that are ideal for hallways, and room dividers that can segregate spaces to help create the division between work and home.
Winter balconies
The year so-far has taught us to have a greater appreciation of having an outdoor space. Pre-2020, a balcony or a garden was something considered ‘nice to have’, rather than a ‘need to have’.
The pandemic crisis, combined with one of the hottest summers on record has changed our mindsets, and there has been an almost 300 per cent increase in people searching for the term ‘winter balconies’ online, as we want to continue using our outdoor spaces even through winter.
As the year saw many homeowners make investment purchases on items like hot tubs (possibly instead of splashing out on a holiday), it’s predicted that Brits want to continue using their outdoor spaces all-year-round.
Sustainable furniture
‘Sustainable furniture’ has seen a 430 per cent increase in searches online, as many people take a conscientious approach to furnishings, ensuring their homes have an eco-friendly touch, but with timeless, luxury feel.
Nordic interiors
Scandi design is not a new concept, but again, ‘Nordic interiors’ has seen a 333 per cent rise in searches, as people want to embrace the minimalism and simplicity of the style.
With staying indoors so much more, people are craving the neutral colour palettes, clean lines, and products that have purpose in their functionality. The neutral colour palettes increase serotonin levels in the brain, which helps boost positive thoughts and productivity, which is something we all need more of for 2021!
