When it comes to interior design, there are many key elements that go into producing a masterpiece that householders can be delighted with. These include the use of space, style, overall quality and besides everything else, a look that is tailored to personal tastes.
Luxury interior designers in London may focus on all and any of these different aspects, but often colour is a central element of how a property’s interior looks.
There will be styles that come with a specific colour tone themselves, of course, such as metallic hues or modernist black and white, but others will be built around the virtues of different colours and the visual and mood effects they have.
It is well known, for example, that colours such as orange and yellow make a room look warmer, while bright colours can make it look larger.
However, one colour that may be very much in vogue this summer is avocado green. According to the BBC, this pale shade, a popular tone in the 1970s, is making a comeback.
Speaking to BBC Culture, author Kassia St Clair said colour is “coming in and out of fashion all the time.” However, there is something particular about avocado green, she suggests. In her book The Secret Lives of Colour, she suggested that its emergence in the 70s came as it is “shorthand for nature”, with various consumer products being “colonised by this smoky yellow-green tint”.
Perhaps the same is happening now in these environmentally-conscious days, giving people a sense of reconnecting with the natural world; no bad idea for Londoners when one is spending much of the day in the midst of an anthropocentric world of steel, glass, concrete and brick.
At the same time, green is regarded psychologically as having a calming influence, helping promote a mood of clarity and serenity. Perhaps in these times of fear and stress that is particularly useful, but it is perhaps also worth considering that when London returns to normal life, a calming home exterior might still offer a green oasis of peace in the busy city.
