When it comes to interior design, Windsor residents have never had any shortage of potential topics of inspiration coming from the royals.
However, while the famous castle remains the most prominent building in the town and the thing it is most famous for, it is another residence there that has been grabbing the attention lately.
Built in 1831, Adelaide Cottage is named after Queen Adelaide, the Berman-born wife of a previous King William, William IV, from 1830-37. Most famously, it is after her that the state capital of South Australia is named.
Now that Wills and Kate are moving there with their three children as they prepare to start schooling in the town, the four-bedroom residence will get plenty of attention. Already many are taking an interest in its interior.
According to Town and Country , the property is believed to have last been renovated in 2015, including “gilded dolphins and rope decoration on the ceiling of the master bedroom, which is said to have been recycled from an 19th century royal yacht”. Another feature was a marble-clad Greco-Egyptian fireplace.
Not everyone will want to copy features like this, of course. After all, even for royal fans a 19th century royal yacht might not be their preferred inspiration for their interior design. But a fireplace like that at the cottage may well be.
It has been reported that no new work will be done on the property, unlike the expensive makeover the nearby Frogmore Cottage got from Harry and Meghan before they decided full-time Royal life was not for them and swapped it for life in the US, although it was at least not left empty, being occupied by Princess Eugenie and husband Jack Brooksbank.
Both cottages have notable external features such as an off-white, cream colour scheme instead of whitewash, as well as very prominent chimneys. While the latter may not fit with modern heating methods, the colour may well have some influence on external design and styles.
