The vast majority of homeowners planning to renovate their properties are opting for environmentally-friendly improvements, hoping to reduce their energy bills and make their house or flat more sustainable.
A survey released by Mitsubishi Electric of 2,003 people found that 71 per cent want ‘green renovations’, reported Plumbing, Heating and Air Movement News.
Residential product group director at the organisation Russell Dean said: “The research shows a clear appetite amongst homeowners to improve their homes and reduce their impact on the environment.”
More than half (56 per cent) of those surveyed said they would pay £5,000 for interior work to be carried out in an environmental and sustainable manner, while the six most popular home improvements of 2022 are all geared towards sustainable living.
They include improvements to reduce energy bills, which was the main priority for 58 per cent of respondents; upgrading windows; updating heating systems; installing insulation; making environmentally conscious improvements; and reducing the carbon footprint of the home.
Mr Dean noted the importance for the industry to ensure homeowners have the information they require to make the decisions regarding green home improvements.
This comes after the government revealed its Boiler Upgrade Scheme to encourage households to update their heating system to a renewable one.
This initiative, which will run until 2025, will provide homeowners and owners of non-domestic properties with grants of up to £6,000 to install low carbon heating systems, such as an air source heat pump, a biomass boiler, or a ground source heat pump.
