Our homes are our sanctuaries, a place where we can go to escape the daily grind, somewhere we can kick back and relax in, without fear or trepidation.
However, the way we choose to decorate and our interior design features can often have the opposite effect and, before we know it, our homes have become a disruptive influence in our lives, making it nigh-on impossible to relax and switch off.
The good news is that there are all sorts of fun and interesting ways you can go about creating calm and serene living spaces that serve as the perfect counterpoint to everything else you have going on in your lives.
Our first top tip is to embrace nature as much as you can and bring the outside in, so you can enjoy botanical themes and motifs throughout the house and start feeling a lot calmer, as a result.
This can be done in a variety of ways, whether you choose to invest in beautiful house plants, start decorating with nature-inspired wallpaper or include only natural materials throughout the house.
Natural light is also key to achieving a calm and serene ambiance at home. Maximise the amount of natural light you have in your spaces as much as you can and you’ll find that they all enjoy a wonderful natural glow that you can then build the rest of your lighting system around.
And colour is, of course, also something you need to bear in mind when trying to create soothing interiors. As a good rule of thumb, just remember that brighter colours are more energising, while neutral and more muted palettes will really engender a calm look and feel.
