The new year is now in full swing, and it’s likely that without all the Christmas decorations your home is looking a little sparse and drab. It’s a great idea to blow away the winter blues with some ideas to give your house a little refresh, and there are some great, simple ideas to achieve this. Our interior design professionals in Buckinghamshire are here to help.

Of course, planning a complete refurbish is the best way to achieve a totally new look and style for the coming year, but if the coffers are a little empty after Christmas, don’t despair.

The easiest way to give your home a new look is to rearrange the furniture. Whether it’s the lounge, the bedroom, or the dining room, just moving things around a bit can give the room a whole new fresh look, without having to spend a penny. Explore with furniture in different places to see how they fit, and what room it gives you.

Reupholstering furniture can be a little expensive, but simply adding new pillows to sofas is a cheap and effective way of given your lounge suite a whole new look. Try adding some different colours, and different textures too!

If you have wooden furniture that’s looking a bit tired or worn, giving it a new look with a lick of paint is less hassle than you would imagine. Sand down that bedside table, or dresser, and apply a coat of white chalk paint for a chic retro vintage style.

If painting doesn’t phase you, then why not try experimenting with a colour wall. You can drastically change the mood of a room by choosing one wall and adding a bold colour. Adding furniture and decor to compliment the colour will make a striking statement.

A good purge is good for the soul. Ideal Home has a whole calendar of cleaning and clearing for the year, starting with having a decluttering session. Throw out all those old things that only serve to gather dust, have a root through your wardrobe for clothes that don’t fit, things that have never been worn, and odd socks long missing their other half!

Changing your lamp shades can give a room a whole new appeal. Ditch those old shades, and find fresh new and colourful ones to cast brand new light in to the room. Maybe even go further and replace light fittings with new pendants.

Botanical themes are still strong for the coming year, so why not trying bringing the outdoors in, with the addition of some new potted plants. Adding some greenery to your room will bring a sense of calm and nature, instantly making you feel relaxed and refreshed.

If you’re considering a refresh on a much grander scale, then get in touch today with our Buckinghamshire interior design experts, and let us see how we can bring style and glamour in to your home.
