One of the key components of any successful interior design scheme is texture. Without texture, you’ll likely find that the end result feels a little flat and one-dimensional.
The good news, however, is that it’s very easy to introduce texture into your living spaces… and you’re sure to find that different types create various different atmospheres and ambiances, so you can have a fun time playing around and experimenting till you find the winning formula for you.
It’s important to deliver visual interest when home styling and, to this end, contrast is something you need to consider. Texture can help enormously where this is concerned and you’re able to build this sense of contrast and avoid creating a homogenous space that all blends in together.
Using different textures in conjunction with each other can build layers of interest – but try not to go too overboard with this, as the end result could be a little on the chaotic side if you’re not careful.
Before bringing any kind of texture in, however, make sure that you know what kind of style and design aesthetic you’re going for in each space. This will help you work out which textures would work best.
For example, if you’re planning something luxurious and contemporary, smooth surfaces and textures could work well and really add something to the room. However, if you’ve decided you’d prefer something a little more rustic, then rougher textures here and there might serve you well.
As a good rule of thumb, just remember that texture doesn’t always have to be big, bold and obvious. Subtle touches can really bring a room to life and draw the eye around the space, so perhaps bear this in mind when putting your designs together.
